 "The Old Apartment"
 BNL
 from "Barenaked Ladies Rock Spectacle"
This song isn't much trouble, with the help of a piano playing
aquaintance we worked it up, and pretty much by ear and memory, here's
 the extent of it.

 capo 3rd fret

 G D C G
 broke into the old apartment
 G D C
this is where we used to live
 G D C G
broken glass, broke and hungry, broken hearts and broken bones
 G D C
this is where we used to live
 Em D C
why did you paint the walls?
 Em D C
why did you clean the floor?
 Em D C D G
why did you plaster over, the hole I punched in the door?
 G D C
this is where we used to live
 Em D C
why did you keep the mousetrap?
 C D G
why did you keep the dish rack?
 G D C D
 *mute*
these things used to be mine, I guess they still are I want 'em back

 G D C G
 broke into the old apartment
 G D C G
 forty-two stairs from the street
 G D C D G
crooked landing, crooked landlord, narrow landway filled with crooks
 G D C
this is where we used to live
 Em D C
why did they pave the lawn?
 Em D C
why did they change the locks?
 G D C D G
why did I have to break in? I only came here to talk
 G D C
this is where we used to live
 G D C
 how is the neighbor downstairs?
 C D G
how is her temper this year?
 G D C D
I turned up your TV and stomped on the floor just for fun

(softly here, getting louder slowly after 2nd phrase, ending with hard
 strums on "I'm happy there"

 Em D G C
I know we don't live here anymore
 Em D G C
we bought an old house on the danforth
 Em D G D C
she loves me and her body keeps me warm
 C D G
 I'm happy there

 (normal volume now)

 G D C
but this is where we used to live

 G D C
 broke into the old apartment
 G D C
tore the phone out of the wall
 G D C G
only memories, faded memories blending into dull tableaux
 G D C D G
i want them back.. this is where we used to live
 G D C D G
i want them back.. this is where we used to live
 G D C
 i want them back..

This is my first tab put into here, I hope it works, and I hope you
enjoy it. On that last C chord, Ed does this thing going up a step kinda,
and I'm assuming he's putting 2 extra light strums in to put a voicing
with the 3rd fret on the 2nd string... I dunno, mess with it a little,
and you'll get it with little trouble. Also all of the first chords on
each phrase are hit a beat before the lyric comes in, not right on it. :)

any questions, comments, critiques, not raging powetripping
complaints.... can be sent to djmccoll@catskill.net

  thanx again, Ben (Squeege)
